10MM 160 - Amplifier Modelling
Advances in amplifier modelling technology have redefined the way we record and produce music with the electric guitar. Mark Cousins explores its evolution.

The relationship between electric guitar and amplifier is one of the defining aspects of any signature guitar sound. From gentle valve distortion from the preamp to the unique colouring properties of the speaker, a guitar amp transforms the ‘vanilla’ sound of a clean electric guitar into something that lives and breathes musicality. Whether it’s the roar of a Marshall stack turned up to 11 or the more subtle, bluesy tones of a Fender Tweed, musicians have often grown to love their amp as much as their guitar. This is why vintage designs can change hands for thousands of pounds.
