Recording sound outside the studio can be a challenge in itself – recording sound for film presents a whole host of different issues. Grant Bridgeman goes on location.

The aim of location sound recording for film varies hugely depending on the exact nature of the production, but in essence it’s to record the best-quality sound possible without compromising the performance or the image. In most productions, the fundamental element is pretty much always the dialogue, which may call for a different approach each time due to a range of factors coming into play, such as the type of camera shot (wide/close-up) required, the costumes or the very concept of the scene itself.
