Taking physical control of your DAW can make mixing and editing a much quicker and more intuitive process. Grant Bridgeman gets tactile.

Controlling a DAW via a mouse is adequate for the nitty-gritty, but for mixing or track automation it can really help to have a tactile interface, as there’s nothing quite like grabbing a fader for volume or twisting a pot for filter cut-off, to cite but two examples. What’s more, with a mixer or control surface, different parameters can be manipulated at the same time, meaning that the process of the manipulation can be that much more organic and a performance in itself – not to mention a heck of a lot quicker.
