Despite its rather rough-and-ready sound, tape echo has proved itself to be an effect that’s never fallen out of favour. From the early ‘slapback’ vocal effects that defined Sun Records through Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry and King Tubby’s experiments in dub, tape echo seems to have a charm that’s all of its own – and that few can resist.
