Look at any pro-audio forum on the web and you’ll find plenty of discussion about how one device sounds better than the other – maybe that’s because of the discrete amounts of harmonic distortion added to its signal path, the sonic characteristics of Class A electronics, or simply because of its design. When it comes to equalisation, though, it’s clear that a device’s unique EQ curve and the specific way in which it responds to your interaction with it has a big impact on the EQ’s perceived musicality – and, more importantly, its usefulness in different production applications.
