Whether it’s built-in to a large-format console, a piece of dedicated outboard gear or a small mixer tucked away in the back of your studio, the channel strip is one of the most fundamental elements in the recording chain. Having evolved from a rudimentary level control on the first studio mixers, today’s channel strips offer a wealth of audio-processing and routing options, from fully parametric equalisation to inserts, compression and auxiliary sends, with each having a specific role to play in the recording and mixing processes.
