Having access to a range of different microphones, each suited to a particular task, will always help you overcome typical acoustic problems and offer the best chance of making a successful recording. But while most project studio owners will own a handful of the most commonly used microphones and generally rely on tried-and-tested mic’ing techniques, few will keep a boundary layer microphone, which can be used to great effect in a range of recording scenarios.
