Onstage monitors are now frequently being replaced by in-ear systems – even for small pub gigs. Grant Bridgeman explains why.

Foldback wedges, so familiar to anyone who regularly plays or watches live shows, are seemingly a thing of the past. But as the fond memories fade, attention needs to be paid to the new technologies that are replacing those cumbersome old boxes – namely, in-ear monitoring systems.
