Digital technology is now the de facto means of recording audio, but it initially took some time to be accepted by the professional industry. Many of the obstacles to its (eventual) success related to the fact that early digital systems were regarded as sounding harsh and sterile, issues now resolved by today’s readily available and far more affordable technologies.
