For more than 50 years, reverb has been an intrinsic part of the record-making process, from the early days of springs and echo plates through to today’s convolution based plug-ins. Put simply, music needs some form of room acoustic to bring it to life, and even though we might think of today’s tastes as erring towards relatively light reverb (certainly by comparison to the reverb drenched mixes created in the 80s), it’s hard to consider putting together an effective mix without using some form of reverberation.
