Given all of the problems associated with small-room acoustics, headphones may initially appear to be a panacea to the difficulties of mixing in the studio, as they can isolate the direct sound from the reflected sound of the room. Listening to a mix on ’phones, however, is a very different experience from listening on stereo speakers, and using them for engineering brings both benefits and drawbacks.
