10MM95 Data Management

As our hard drives continue to swell, data management will become even more important to our working practices. Mark Cousins takes control of his megabytes...

Living in such a data-rich society dictates that the tools and procedures necessary for actively managing that data are essential for an efficient, productive working environment – and the recording studio is a prime example of a place where vast amounts of data can be generated on an hourly basis (especially if you’re recording 24 tracks at 192kHz). Good data management, therefore, is about strategies to make the reading, writing and archiving of data occur as efficiently as possible, and can range from the way in which you configure your system through to ways that the OS and third-party software can be used to manage and back up data you create.
