If you are planning to record an acoustic guitar track at home, you are about to become part of a long tradition. Although they could have used top-of-the-range studios, many guitarists have recorded at home. Bert Jansch, the ‘Hendrix of acoustic guitar’ made his first albums in his Camden flat and returned to this method of working later in his career. Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska album started life as a collection of home demos recorded on a 4-track. Johnny Cash produced arguably his finest body of work recording in his house with Rick Rubin, and contemporary artists such as PJ Harvey and Beck have followed his example.
