!iven the amount of time we all spend working with sound, it’s amazing to think how little we directly know about the medium we’re working with. The truth is, we’ve all become accustomed to using our ears and brain to analyse and interpret the complex set of vibrations that sound is. In many situations, however, engineers will often call upon more scientific means of analysing a sound’s attributes, to better rationalise their application of EQ, compression, effects and so on. But how do these different audio analysers work, and what information can we feasibly extract from them?
