Automation in Reason 2.5
Reason’s toolbox includes comprehensive automation controls. Hollin Jones looks at how to give your tracks an added dimension.
One of the best things about sequencing software is the flexibility it gives you in the way you make music. It enables an individual with a computer to perform complex tasks, which at one time would have required several people and a great deal of hardware to achieve. One of the most powerful features of modern sequencing software is the ability to automate – to program in control changes, wheel movements, fader movements and the like – and have the computer replicate them in real time. In studios this was traditionally done by the producer, or several producers, manually moving faders up and down at precise points.
