Battery 3 Workshop - Custom Drum Kits
Battery is the perfect tool for building and customising drum kits – and what’s more, it’s remarkably easy to use. Hollin Jones powers up.

Just a few short years ago, building your own MIDI-triggered drum kit involved either hardware drum machines – never the most flexible things when it comes to chopping and changing sounds – or using hardware samplers to assign hits to keys on a keyboard. However, the advent of software drum samplers such as Battery took the concept to a whole new level, greatly increasing the power and fl exibility of the samples while offering even more extensive controls over sample editing and processing. And as the technology developed, more and more specialised kits in Battery format appeared on the market (and, of course, Battery itself ships with a great sound set). But it is quite capable of loading your own hits and samples too, enabling you to build 'construction kits’, which is just another way of saying kits that you mix and match yourself.
