Beat Detective
Beat Detective enables Pro Tools users to quickly and easily match the grooves of previously out-of-sync audio files. Mike Hillier steps in line...

One common problem that can occur when combining electronically generated music with music played by a ‘real’ musician is that of timing. A human musician will not always play a note exactly on the beat – sometimes deliberately, but often enough not. A machine, however, will always play a note at exactly the time it is programmed to play it. This discrepancy can introduce an unwanted level of irregularity in a track, making the whole mix seem uneven and out of kilter. In most cases it’s likely to be just the odd note, and re-recording the track may be your best option. However, if the musician is no longer available, Pro Tools provides another solution.
