Build your own loops
Custom built loops give you a unique soundsource for your own productions as well as something you can share with others. Liam O’Mullane guides you through the process.

People have always enjoyed getting into a groove and staying there for a while. Blues, pop, rock and many other genres of music make use of a primary riff or hook that is repeated as necessary for the listener’s enjoyment. After the use of reel-to-reel players for tape looping – most famously utilised on the original Dr Who theme – DJs started to loop song sections live by repeating a small but exciting section of a track using two copies of the same record. This paved the way for a generation of loop sampling when the technology became available. Today we are no longer limited by memory or storage space – and this has opened up the use of loops for quick-and-easy music creation, whether live or in the studio.
