Over the last 15 years or so there has been an explosion in the number and range of school and college courses that focus on the technical side of making music. While some specialise in the science and technology aspects, others focus on the music production and commercial options available. All of them, however, enable students to gain hands-on experience of using sophisticated recording setups in a controlled environment. The idea is that once a student has completed the course, graduates can become a trainee engineer for a studio (large or small), set up a business or use their own home setup with confidence.
