Cubase 4.5 Workshop - Working with loops (part 2)
Your loops are the right pitch and length, but how should you manage their groove, swing and feel? Hollin Jones shows you how to take control.

Part 1 of this Workshop looked at how you can take regular audio samples and loops and manipulate their pitch and duration to make them fit to any project you may be working on in Cubase. We also explored the idea of using fades to deal with clicks and clipping that can occur when a sample is looped and repeated. In this second part, we’ll explore ways in which you can quantize, warp and slice your audio loops so that they are not only in time with a project’s tempo, but also have the right groove, swing and feel. A loop that’s in time but has the wrong feel can often be of little use, as it may clash with the other parts of a track and ruin the overall sense of timing. It’s a consideration that’s more musical than technical, unlike the fairly clinical business of making sure a loop is of the right length.
