Having more or less invented the concept of virtual instruments and developed the VST format, Steinberg can rightly lay claim to the title of pioneers in the world of software synthesis. But over the years, developing new versions of Cubase had seemingly taken priority over bundling really innovative instruments with the sequencer. But given that practically every third-party developer has been making VST-format plug-ins from day one, perhaps this was a better use of Steinberg’s resources.
