If you’re after classic electronic beats, Cubase is equipped with all the tools you need to program and tweak them. Hollin Jones goes retro.

The first traditional instrument to get the electronic treatment and be hauled into the digital age was the driving force behind the contemporary band – the drum kit. MIDI-triggering was in its infancy and these machines were generally very electronic-sounding, but found favour because they were relatively affordable. There was the odd synthesizer sporting MIDI capabilities at the time, but they were prohibitively expensive.
