The first traditional instrument to get the electronic treatment and be hauled into the digital age was the driving force behind the contemporary band – the drum kit. MIDI-triggering was in its infancy and these machines were generally very electronic-sounding, but found favour because they were relatively affordable. There was the odd synthesizer sporting MIDI capabilities at the time, but they were prohibitively expensive.
