In the world of virtual audio effects, it tends to be the more glamorous and exotic products that grab the headlines – certainly, there’s no shortage of VSTs on the market that enable you to mangle your sound and transform it in unexpected ways. And this is great, but in everyday music production it’s often the case that sounds need to be enhanced and given life and movement rather than being twisted and torn. The plug-ins that you use most often on many projects, therefore, will be the more workaday varieties such as compressors, phasers and doublers.
