Everyone likes a great guitar sound, but budgets can’t always stretch to dedicated processing gear. Hollin Jones explores the tools you already have in Cubase 5.

Plug-in and DAW manufacturers are increasingly starting to produce ever more elaborate software for re-creating guitar-style effects. The trend arguably started with NI and its Guitar Rig, but there’s also Waves’ GTR, IK Multimedia’s AmpliTube and others. In version 9 of Logic, Apple bundled a raft of new Pedalboard effects; there are even some in GarageBand and Propellerhead’s Record has dedicated effects racks from Line 6.
