Cubase 5 Workshop - Using VariAudio
Jay-Z may have announced the ‘Death Of Auto-Tune’ but pitch correction is alive and well – and available within Cubase. Tim Hallas puts things right...

As I believe Jay-Z recently said: ‘Auto-Tune is dead’. His point was that it had gone beyond a technique and become a cliché. We’re all familiar with the over-Auto-Tuned sound of Cher in her song Believe from the mid-90s, but if you listen to any hip hop or R&B track at the moment you will hear the same vocal sound over and over again. What’s more, we’ve recently heard at least one live rock band clearly using Auto-Tune (in its hardware form) to correct their live vocals. This was obvious to the trained ear – their vocal harmonies were just too perfect!
