Cubase 5 Workshop - Working with surround sound
Last month we took some tentative first steps into the world of surround sound. In this instalment, Tim Hallas dives in with some more advanced techniques.

When I engineer and mix recordings I often end up going down one of two different routes. Either I try to create an ambient-sounding recording that sounds as close to a live performance as possible, or I try to make it sound as studio-produced as possible so much so that it could never be realistically reproduced live. These are not always deliberate decisions: as an engineer you get an automatic intuition about these things.
