Cubase SX/SL3 Workshop_Groove Quantize
Does the music you sequence in Cubase lack that human touch? Hollin Jones shows you how to master groove maps and find your way to a better sound...

There has always been a fundamental difference between the process of recording instruments live to tape and using software to sequence MIDI and samples. Aside from the obvious technical distinctions, it’s the differing feel of the results that is most apparent. Music played by hand or sung has a ‘human’ quality – slight, sometimes imperceptible timing variations that give away the ‘live’ nature of the performance. Sequenced music, even when played from a keyboard via MIDI, tends to be more mechanical and regimented. Sequencers encourage you to work in this way, to make everything inch-perfect.
