Designing Sound For Animation
Sound and music assume even greater significance in animated productions. Here Robin Beauchamp reveals how to navigate the preproduction phase of creating a suitable soundtrack.

The overall production path is divided into three phases: preproduction, production and postproduction. This sequence of workflow is referred to as the production path. The saying “You can have it good, fast, or cheap, but only two of the three” summarizes the forces that influence audio production. In practice, “good” costs money, “fast” costs money, and there is “no” money (see the Production Triangle, right).
