Dynamics processing in logic
Have a look at Logic’s Dynamics plug-ins and you’ll find they include plenty of useful tools. Andrew Taylor-Maskrey offers an introduction to some of the automatic gain controls.
From the simple Silver Gate and Compressor through to the well-equipped Multipressor multi-band compressor/expander, Logic offers a battery of dynamics processing features – one of the most frequently used set of functions in any studio. Compressors are useful tools for levelling out dynamics and are often the key to making all the sounds fit in the mix, particularly when mixing complex material. Logic’s compressor has all the usual parameters (explained in more detail later), including a choice of Peak or RMS analysis, which are both useful depending on the material to be compressed and the effect to be achieved.
