Envelopes
Envelopes play an essential part in all types of synthesis. Ian Waugh has the details wrapped up and stuck down…
Our ears are amazing, and yet incongruous, organs. We can listen to a symphony orchestra and easily pick out individual instruments from within the acoustic mêlée – something no computer software has yet managed to do successfully and consistently – and yet they can easily be fooled by simple representations of complex acoustic sounds. Which is rather fortunate for us, otherwise the world of synthesis would be limited to drones and warbles, and totally unable to create any realistic sounds.
