Fix Your Mix
What are the options open to you if you need to tighten up a sloppy performance or correct a few bum notes? Mark Cousins explores the art of corrective audio surgery.

In an ideal world, every sound or performance captured during a recording session would be flawless – rhythmically tight, in tune and with good intonation throughout. However, these kinds of ideals are hard to uphold no matter how hard you strive – even the most well trained musician will deliver the occasional fluffed note or two, especially when under the pressure of the red light. Equally, although you might have the choice of using anyone of several more polished performances, it may well be that the most emotive and musically exciting take is also the one with a few rough edges.
