The latest major updates to Apple and Microsoft’s operating systems are upon us, but what do they mean for musicians? Hollin Jones has the low-down.

The majority of people who record and produce music now do so using computer-based systems – or at the very least involve a computer at some stage of the process. And although musical and technological skills are two very different things, anyone running their own music setup has to have at least a little of both. An understanding of your computer and how it runs can help you not only to troubleshoot, but also to make better purchasing or upgrading decisions.
