The final stages of a complex project usually leave you facing a long list of unmixed tracks and unruly levels that need to be reined in and tamed. The instrumentation and concept may be watertight, and while some mixing might have taken place during the writing process, there is no denying the fact that, in most cases, a final mixdown vastly improves the quality of a finished master.
