Composing for TV, film, ads or games can be a lucrative and rewarding discipline, but how do you get your first break? Composer and publisher Mike Sheppard opens his three-part series with a few pointers.
There is another way. I know you probably don’t want to hear it, but if you want to make a living out of creating music then chances are you’re not going to make it by becoming the next Will, Gareth or David. Or even the next David Gray. But there are alternatives, and some of you know it. For there is a lucrative career to be found as a film composer, or a TV composer, or an advert composer – the list goes on and on.
