Synthesis is an area of music production that many utilise, some understand and only a few can master. Understanding synthesis requires background knowledge of digital audio, spectrum analysis, signal processing and psychoacoustics. In this feature we’ll explore the principles of subtractive synthesis and focus on oscillators and their role in the signal chain.
