The final instalment of our foray into synthesis focuses on the role and results of modulation – vital for bringing life to your sounds. Dave Gibson is your guide.

The third and final feature of this Inside Synthesis series focuses on the last stage in the signal chain and explores modulation. But first, let’s recap. In part one we discussed time/frequency-domain analysis, oscillator waveforms and combining the basic building blocks to generate complex tones. Next, in part two, we looked at filter types, resonance and creative manipulation of the audio signal.
