Lemon Jelly Interview
’64-’95 reveals a new, sharper taste to the Lemon Jelly sound. We talk to Nick Franglen about the secrets of the Jelly machine.
Having released just three albums over the last eight years, Lemon Jelly clearly aren’t in a rush for instant chart fame, yet the resounding success of albums like Lost Horizons and Lemonjelly.ky has proved that commercial appeal needn’t come at the expense of creative compromise. Inspired by an eclectic collection of records and a desire to “get together and make some music”, Nick Franglen and Fred Deakin have crafted a unique branch of intelligent-sounding dance music. Lost Horizons, in particular, struck a resounding musical chord with the listening public – rich, organic layers of sound (much of it played on real instruments), interwoven with chunky rhythms and grooves.
