Live 6 Workshop Composing with MIDI FX
The inspiration for your next big hit can sometimes be found in the most unlikely of places. Jon Margulies shows you one place to start looking...

One of the great things about working with sequencers, MIDI and the kinds of tools associated with writing and recording music electronically is how they can often inspire new ideas and spare us from the musical equivalent of staring at a blank page. You could use a drum loop to start building a track, an arpeggiator to turn a chord into a melodic idea, or a step sequencer generating random notes… How you choose to start composing is often difficult to pin down, but certainly, in many cases a single sound or a particular effect can be enough to fire the imagination. The possibilities are limited only by your willingness to experiment – aided by a little insider knowledge about what is possible within Live.
