Live 7 Workshop - The Arpeggiator
The arpeggiator is a familiar tool that’s enjoyed practically unparalleled popularity, and its implementation in Live leaves few of its roles unexplored. Jon Margulies dives in.

Arpeggiators have been around for a long time now. Evolving from the analogue hardware sequencers of the late 1960s, they routinely turn up both as built-in features of hardware synthesizers and in software form in various sequencers. Early arpeggiators were very simple: hold down one or more notes on the keyboard and the notes sound in a repeating pattern, one at a time. Over the years, many variations on the arpeggiator emerged, with some featuring more advanced capabilities such as random output and programmable patterns.
