As tempting as it is to stay within the cosy confines of the studio, it’s important to remember that there are plenty of alternative recording venues – from disused churches to concert halls – right outside your door. Of course, recording on location has many challenges, but given the wealth of portable, high-quality recording equipment many of us have access to, there’s no reason why you can’t work in a more varied set of acoustic spaces. Maybe you want to record a string section for your latest track, a local choir or a small acoustic jazz combo – all of these scenarios (and many more besides) could actively benefit from you taking your studio out, rather than bringing your musicians in.
