Logic Pro 7 Workshop Surround Sound
Free yourself from the restrictions of stereo’s two dimensions and enter the exciting world of surround sound. Mark Cousins shows you what you can do in Logic Pro 7.
Whether you’re working in music production or sound to picture, there’s an increasing likelihood of your having to produce mixes in a surround-sound format. Whereas hardware consoles and processors have struggled to accept this new way of working, the software world – including Logic Pro 7 – represents the ideal opportunity to branch out and explore the added dimension of surround sound. Sonically speaking, a move towards formats like 5.1 makes a lot of musical sense: a strong (rather than phantom) centre image, deep bass and – most importantly – the ability to define a 360-degree panoramic soundstage. Not only will your tracks sound better for it, the process of mixing in 5.1 can be significantly more enjoyable – and a lot less problematic than working in stereo.
