Logic Pro 8 Workshop - Creating IR files
Following last month’s detailed exploration of reverb, we take a closer look at impulse response sampling. Mark Cousins takes in the ambience.

Although it’s been possible to create your own impulse response files for Logic Pro’s Space Designer since its first release, the process wasn’t exactly straightforward or intuitive. However, with the introduction of Apple’s Impulse Response Utility, the process has been simplified considerably, enabling you to quickly and efficiently sample the acoustics of a room (or any other acoustic space) with little more than a single active monitor and a microphone – even for a full 5.1 surround sound impulse response.
