Logic Pro 9 Workshop - Working with automation
Using Automation Automation can unlock the true potential of a mix, making your music far more dynamic and interesting to the ear. Mark Cousins takes control.

Automation is one of the fundamental cornerstones of any good mix,
enabling you to shift the balance of the instrumentation and the way it
is effected in response to developments and changes in the music. Put
simply, a good mix needs to be dynamic – indeed, if you watch any
professional engineer at work you’ll note how they almost seem to
‘play’ the console in response to what they hear in the music. It’s no
surprise, therefore, to find that Logic includes a superbly implemented
automation system complete with touch-sensitive faders, automation
track lanes and a range of editing tools and features that allow
unprecedented control over the final mix.
