Managing sounds in Reason 2.5
If you’ve ever felt like you’re losing control of your sound libraries, you’ll understand the need to manage them. Hollin Jones does it in Reason.
A piece on managing sounds in Reason may prompt you to ask why – when it’s primarily a MIDI sequencing program – one would want to look at this subject. In fact, all of the instruments in Reason’s samplers and drum machines consist of two elements: a patch, and a series of audio files that are referenced to produce the sound. REX files are also audio files, albeit of a different format. It’s only the synths and effects modules in Reason that actually generate on-the-fly sounds using oscillators and algorithms.
