Metering might not be the most exciting element of the recording process, but it’s hard to imagine achieving professional results without at least some kind of visual reference. Ultimately, of course, any good engineer’s ears should be the judge of whether a recording sounds well-balanced or not, but after a long day sitting at the console, how can you absolutely trust what you’re hearing?
