When MIDI was first introduced in 1982 it ushered in a whole new way of making recordings. Having previously struggled with various CV (control voltage) systems to connect their synthesizers together, MIDI’s arrival meant musicians finally had access to a universally accepted means of communication between 16 devices in their studio.
