Probably the most used, abused and misunderstood sound processing tool there is, EQ originates from the early days of recording when the technology was so lo-fi that it removed many important frequencies. EQ was used to enhance those frequencies in an attempt to make the recording ‘equal’ to the original sound, hence the term ‘equalisation’.
