Optimising Reason 2.5
Sooner or later we all start to run out of processing power. Hollin Jones shows you how to optimise your system and Reason 2.5 for maximum performance.
The shift in music technology towards software has been almost exclusively a result of increases in computing power and the speed of computer processors. The capacity of computers to generate and modify sound in real time relies on a CPU being powerful enough to run an operating system and all the relevant software at the same time. Thankfully, they have been able to do this for a while now, but another problem then arises. Namely that there is no upper limit on what we begin to expect from our systems. Even though systems are now more powerful than ever before, it’s still possible to make them fall over, and usually without too much effort. As a result, it’s still necessary to make some concessions to conserving power to make sure every last processor cycle is working for you.
