Playing Live with Loops and Samples
Many tracks are too complex to fully re-create in a live performance – unless, that is, you employ some technical wizardry. Hollin Jones explains all.

When you hear the phrase ‘backing tracks’, you may immediately think of manufactured pop acts miming on TV to their latest throwaway hit – and that is indeed one use for them. For those who like their music with a little more substance, though, backing tracks can be thought of (along with loops and samples) as a means of enhancing a live performance without requiring extra band members.
