It seems as though every bit of traditional studio hardware is appearing in software form these days. It used to be that you bought a large metal box with lots of plastic knobs to mix your audio. Tape recorders were standard kit, and if you wanted to add effects you bought a bunch of rack-mountable metal boxes with more knobs. And keyboard players bought synthesizers – again, in metal boxes with plastic knobs.
